CLEVELAND -- Browns rookie linebacker Barkevious Mingo was released from the hospital after a two-night stay because of a bruised lung. wholesale nba jerseys . The unusual injury came on a hit some time in the first half of Thursday nights exhibition victory over the Detroit Lions. The Browns cant pinpoint exactly when the 6-foot-4, 240-pounder was hurt. Mingo had been in The Cleveland Clinic since Thursday night. He was at the teams training facility Saturday and visited with defensive co-ordinator Ray Horton during the teams lunch break before practice. "He looks great," Horton said. "As far as projections, the doctors will make that decision. We just want him to get healthy and are glad everything is OK. The projection will be whenever his body says he is ready to go." The former LSU standout likely will be kept out of practice for the next week, and its possible he will sit out Clevelands final two preseason games at Indianapolis (Aug. 24) and Chicago (Aug. 29). Horton isnt too worried about Mingo missing time. "For a young guy, he needs every rep he can get," Horton said. "He is very smart. He is on page. For us, its just reps. Its seeing a different look. Its seeing (Colts QB) Andrew Luck. Its seeing different fronts, what they have and how they want to block him. It will retard a little bit, but he is pretty gifted in what he does and he picks things up fast. How much? I cant give you a quantitative answer, but it will hurt him a little bit." Mingo played only on the kickoff-coverage and punt-return teams against the Lions. On Friday, coach Rob Chudzinski said even after reviewing the game, the team did not see any major impact that could have caused the injury. "We looked at the tape," Chudzinski said. "There wasnt a big hit that you could see. Obviously he had a number of plays with some contact, but it was hard to determine which hit it was." Chudzinski said Mingo was having trouble breathing before he left the field and was taken to the hospital. The No. 6 overall pick in Aprils NFL draft, the speedy Mingo has been primarily playing special teams and with Clevelands second-string defence. However, Horton has been working Mingo into some of the Browns pass-rushing packages to use his ability to pressure the quarterback from the edge. Fortunately, the Browns have others who can fill in while Mingo recovers. "We have a lot of players at a lot of positions who can play for us," Horton said. "Depth is a key for us. We have quality players at a lot of quality positions. A lot of people use the mantra, Next man up. We believe in that philosophy that it doesnt matter who the starters are, it is give me 11 guys who want to go out and play and can play. "He is one of our 11, so will it hurt our team? Yeah, it will hurt our team because of our depth, but we will get him back soon and we will plug him right back in." Mingo was one of five Browns players to suffer a significant injury in the 24-6 win over the Lions. Running back Dion Lewis broke his left leg and is scheduled for surgery. Its not known how long Lewis will be sidelined, and Chudzinski said the team will wait until after the operation before deciding whether to put him on injured reserve. Lewis, acquired in a March trade from Philadelphia, has been a pleasant addition for the Browns, who were hoping to use him as a change-of-pace with starter Trent Richardson. Lewis injury will further test Clevelands depth in the backfield since Montario Hardesty is expected to miss at least one month after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery Thursday. Starting right guard Jason Pinkston (high ankle sprain) left FirstEnergy Stadium in a walking boot and on crutches. Chudzinski said rookie Garrett Gilkey, a seventh-round pick, likely will move into the starting spot. Tight end Gary Barnidge (sprained shoulder) and rookie kicker Brandon Bogotay (groin) were also hurt in the preseason game but are not expected to be out long. cheap nba jerseys . - Vince Wilfork has played only two career games in Kansas City. cheap nba jerseys china .S. womens soccer team to a 2-0 win over China in Colorado in the afternoon. http://www.cheapnbajerseyschinastore.com/ .Y. -- Sore nose and all, Sidney Crosby had a goal and three assists to help Pittsburgh beat Buffalo 5-3 on Friday night, snapping the Penguins mini-slump and slowing the Sabres late-season surge. CHICAGO -- Even though Ryan Raburn hasnt played a lot lately, he certainly didnt look rusty at the plate Thursday night. Many of the Cleveland Indians other hitters were in a groove, too. Raburn went 3 for 3 with a homer and five RBIs, and Cleveland routed the Chicago White Sox 14-3 to remain to 1 1-2 games out of the second AL wild-card spot. Raburn, who has been hampered by nagging right calf and left heel injuries, played in just his third game since Aug. 18. Besides his 16th homer, the right-handed hitting outfielder doubled and scored two runs. "We said coming into the series that Raburn would play a big part because were going to face three lefties," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "He not only gets his, but he gives us a lot of production for a guy that plays maybe half the year or not even that." Raburn, who is 29 for 85 against left-handed pitching, has appeared in 73 of 146 games this season. In his career, Raburn has hit 17 of his 70 homers and driven in 66 of his 267 RBIs against the White Sox. "Hes maintained his swing all year," Francona said. "Its been pretty rare when he did not have his timing or not have his balance. "Hes been really consistent with it, and as a bench player, thats not the easiest thing to do." The Indians blew the game open with a seven-run, rain-delayed fifth inning, when their first nine batters reached base. Charlie Leesman, who relieved Chicago starter John Danks (4-13), faced seven hitters, all of whom scored. Nick Swisher had a solo homer and three RBIs, and Asdrubal Cabrera added a solo shot to support starter Corey Kluber (9-5), who won his second straight start after missing a month with right middle finger sprain. The right-hander gave up two runs and six hits in five innings. "We knew we were going to have to bring some energy today," Swisher said. "We just kind of started it off in the first inning and just continued to keep it going. "Were trying to get into that playoff regardless of however we do it, whether its wild card or division. Were going to keep fighting until the last out." Relievers Josh Tomlin, Vinnie Pestano and Preston Guilmet worked the next four innings, allowing one unearned run. Danks lasted four innings and allowed seven runs,, nine hits and three walks in his third straight loss. nba jerseys china authentic. . In his last three outings, the left-hander has given up 17 runs in 14 1-3 innings. "If I had a reason I wouldve fixed it," Danks said. "I just couldnt do what I wanted to do. "Nothing worked. I threw the ball over where I wasnt supposed to throw it. Its embarrassing. This is supposed to be the major leagues and I went out there and pitched like that." Chicago reliever Dylan Axelrod pitched five innings to close the game, allowing no runs and four hits. Paul Konerko hit a solo homer for the White Sox, who are in last place in the AL Central and have lost 11 of 13. Clevelands Jason Kipnis went 2 for 2 with two RBIs as the Indians began a seven-game trip with a victory that improved them to 78-68. Tampa Bay, at 79-66, is in the second wild-card slot. Cleveland closed within six games of idle Detroit in the AL Central. Swisher, who sat out Wednesdays loss to Kansas City, hit his 18th homer with one out to open the scoring. After Kipnis singled and Carlos Santana walked, Raburns line shot to left barely cleared the fence for his 16th homer that made it 4-0. After Kipnis drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth to extend Clevelands lead to 7-2, the Indians ran away with seven runs in the fifth. NOTES: Injured Indians ace Justin Masterson (14-10) may have a chance to rejoin the team before the season ends, according to Francona. The right-hander, who leads Cleveland in wins, left a Sept. 2 game against Baltimore in the second inning with a strained left oblique muscle. He played catch up to 90 feet on Wednesday. "He had no issues and well just continue that progression," Francona said. "He did well. Its going to depend on how quickly he comes back." ... Swisher and Cabrera were back in the starting lineup after being held out Wednesday. Cabrera entered Thursdays game in a 3-for-27 slump. ... White Sox rookie INF Marcus Semien got his fourth career start and second straight at 3B after Conor Gillaspie made three errors on Tuesday. Semien doubled for his first extra-base hit and scored his first run. ... Cleveland RHP Danny Salazar (1-2) is scheduled to face Chicago LHP Hector Santiago (4- in the second game of the four-game series on Friday. ' ' ' |
